Bacolod City Mayor Bing Leonardia Confirmed Gov’t Employee Who’s Positive for COVID-19 Died

BACOLOD CITY – Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia confirmed that a COVID-19 positive employee of the New Government Center (NGC) died.

Most provinces and cities in the Philippines have recorded cases of COVID-19, a coronavirus disease that has been declared by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a pandemic.

According to WHO, it may be a long-term battle against the disease. The international body was even alarmed by how quick the infection spread across the globe. More than 200 countries and territories are dealing with the pandemic now.

In the Philippines, the total COVID-19 cases recorded now is at 119,460. According to the Department of Health (DOH), 2,150 of the said patients died while 66,837 have already recovered from the disease.

Bacolod is one of the cities with confirmed cases of COVID-19. In fact, recently, there were calls for the city to be placed under an Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) again after the cases increased.

Recently, Bacolod City Mayor Bing Leonardia confirmed that an employee of the New Government Center (NGC) who tested positive for COVID-19 died.

Based on the post of Kakampi Rey Siason, the patient is a 48-year-old employee at NGC. She is asthmatic and has an enlarged heart as she has told her officemates.

The patient experienced occasional cough and, last July 27, she consulted a doctor then quarantined at her residence. Based on the post, she was swabbed on July 30 and a day after it, she experienced breathing difficulties so she was brought to the hospital.

The said NGC employee died in the early hours of August 6. Hours after she passed away, her COVID-19 test result came out and she tested positive for coronavirus.

Mayor Leonardia expressed his condolences to the family of the government employee who died of COVID-19. He said that the said employee is a “valuable member” at her office.

The Bacolod City Mayor also reminded the public not to ignore the protocols set against COVID-19. He stressed that the government leads the way but what will make a difference is the personal responsibility of everyone.
