Restaurant in Siargao Weaves Coco Leaves to Make Eco-friendly Box for Pizza

A restaurant on the island of Siargao weaves coconut leaves to make an eco-friendly takeaway container for their delicious pizza.

Firstly, it reduces waste because the pizza container is reusable in addition to being biodegradable and secondly, it helps the local weavers to have extra income especially now that there is a pandemic.

“We are proud to share that we are now using an eco-friendly takeaway pizza container for our customers. Our aim is to have less waste and promote sustainability. We are also helping local Tangbo weavers to earn extra income especially at this time of the pandemic,” Aqwa Siargao posted on its Facebook page.

According to Aqwa Siargao, the customer has to deposit P150 for the eco-friendly pizza box. The deposit can be withdrawn when the box is returned. You can also use the pizza box again when ordering another take-home pizza.

“When you order the pizza to take away, we collect a deposit fee of 150 pesos. Then you can either bring the box back to us and we give you your 150 pesos back or you can hold on to the box and use it again when you order another takeaway pizza from us,” Aqwa Siargao said.
