Cebu City Allows Entry To Ports As Quarantine Protocol Lowers

CEBU CITY ALLOWS ENTRY – Ports of Cebu City are now open for passenger vessels as it lowers to a General Community Quarantine (GCQ).

Previously, Cebu City was placed in a strict Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) as coronavirus cases rose. Since then, the military was placed to enforce protocols that seemed to be effective as the number of coronavirus cases lowered significantly.

Now, as the the city shifts to a GCQ, passenger vessels are allowed entry to docks provided passengers and crew adhere to health protocols. But, passenger ships are would only be allowed to transport half of its allowed capacity.

According to an article from CDN, Mayor Edgardo Labella said the ships must have an online booking system for their tickets. This was to avoid passengers from crowding ticket offices in the hopes of dissuading the further spread of the disease.

Furthermore, the health officers are required to monitor the state of the passengers and the crew. Meanwhile, mass gatherings aboard passenger’s vessels are strictly prohibited. However, as per the report, the prohibitions and limitations do not apply to cargo vessels.

Additionally, Councilor Joel Garganera, the Emergency Operations czar highlighted that inbound and outbound passengers would flood ports today as travel resumes. There would also be an influx of more than 18,000 locally stranded individuals who want to leave Cebu.

Along with this, Garganera said that around 11,000 LSIs would be returning from other areas in Central Visayas and the Philippines.
