Mayor Sara Duterte said that the Davao City government is planning to lift the liquor ban and resume the Roxas night market starting September 1.

Major cities in the Philippines are greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Metro Manila once topped the list of most number of coronavirus cases. Then, Cebu City, in the Visayas region also had a massive number of infected individuals.

In the Mindanao region, Davao City also suffered. Amid the pandemic, establishments were mandated to close and this means no businesses and jobs for many people.

As the situation alleviates (so it seems) and lockdown was lifted, businesses are getting back to normal one step at a time. Based on the recent Facebook post of the official Page of the City Government of Davao, Mayor Sara Duterte is also eyeing the possibility to lift the liquor ban.

The local government also aims to resume the operation of the popular Roxas Night Market. However, the presidential daughter, this change will be possible to take place in the start of September, if people in Davao will cooperate.

She stressed that Davaoeño should instill self-discipline and self-regulation. If this will not be followed, the mayor said that there is a possibility that the number of COVID-19 patients will rise again. “Nobody wants to go back to GCQ. MECQ, and ECQ,” she said.

Mayor Sara Duterte also reminded her constituents to always observe the precautionary measures. “Stay at home, wear face masks, distansya sa ubang tao at least two meters, and frequent hand washing,” the post stated.
