House Deputy Speaker Johnny Pimentel & Several Others Undergo COVID-19 Testing for Duterte SONA 2020
JOHNNY PIMENTEL – The House Deputy Speaker and twenty-five (25) staffers from Congress and the Office of the President tested positive for COVID-19.
The 5th State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte will be held today at Batasang Pambansa. The President will deliver his speech in a separate chamber.
Also, other chambers were set to separate the attendees of the said national event. This SONA set-up is different from the previous SONAs because of the COVID-19 pandemic now wherein gathering is prohibited.
Previously, it was reported that around fifty (50) people only will be attending the Duterte SONA 2020 at Batasang Pambansa. Also, COVID-19 testings were done prior to the event.

Among those who tested for COVID-19 are House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, House Deputy Speaker Johnny Pimentel, and the staffers of Congress and the technical personnel from the Office of the President.
Cayetano tested negative for coronavirus. Unfortunately, based on a recent report of News5, Deputy Speaker Johnny Pimentel is positive for COVID-19. Also, 25 staffers of the Congress and the Office of the President are positive for the disease.
Based on the report, out of the 25 staffers, 18 of them are Congressional employees while 7 are technical personnel from the President’s office. They were assigned for the SONA that will be held today.
As of this writing, there are still no further information related to the matter thus more updates may be posted soon. Prior to SONA 2020, Pres. Duterte also went through the COVID-19 testing and his result is out now.
