Ateneo Football Recruit Yana Bautista Dies of COVID-19 Complications

YANA BAUTISTA – The newly recruited football player for Ateneo de Manila University died due to the coronavirus disease.

The young lady who is an incoming freshman at Ateneo de Manila University and recently recruited football player has died due to complications of COVID-19 on Wednesday (July 24, 2020).

Yana’s sister, Martie Bautista of Philippine women’s national football team forward shared and confirmed the bad news. Marti also revealed that her sister suffered from Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis, an illness affecting the body’s central nervous system.

On July 18, 2020, the aspiring UAAP player Alyana Bautista took a swab test and tested positive for the coronavirus disease. She has been confined at the intensive care unit until she died at the age of 17.

Martie also shared the plans and dreams of Yana as she was expecting to enter Ateneo in August.

“Yana had a lot of things planned out for this year. She had high hopes booting up for Ateneo as she was expecting to come in as a freshman this August. Yana was also thrilled planning for our future trips abroad as a family. Overall, we knew how exhilarated she was to learn how to drive as this September would mark her 18th birthday,” Martie said.

The Philippine Football Federation has also expressed their condolences towards the family of Bautista.
