For the second time, Howie Severino donates his plasma
Kapuso journalist Howie Severino donates again his plasma after he recovered from the novel coronavirus disease 2019.
Howie is the COVID-19 patient 2828. His recovery is one of the inspiring stories that was told to the public. Indeed, he became an inspiration to many amid the health crisis in the Philippines.
Even Filipino illustrator Cynthia Bauzon-Arre felt that the journalist has helped others. Their conversation that Cynthia shared on Twitter touched the hearts of many netizens.
Surviving the fatal virus was not just the sole mission for Howie. He also helped other COVID-19 patients by donating his plasma. The journalist attempted to donate again, for the second time, just recently.
However, based on the article from GMA Entertainment, he was rejected at first. It was because, in his second attempt to donate, it was found out that the antibodies in his blood began to decrease. That is why he was rejected.
“I was told after tests that I still had enough antibodies for my own protection but not enough to be accepted as a donor,” the journalist shared.
Howie Severino added that he was the “20th rejection out of 21 survivors who offered to donate in the last week.” He also revealed that the antibodies of a survivor decrease at a faster rate than what was expected by many before.
The Kapuso journalist shared an update on July 23 that the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) informed that he is qualified to donate his plasma again as the medical institution “revised their cutoff for antibody level.”
He also encouraged other COVID-19 survivors to donate during the so-called “golden period”. It is during the first month after the recovery when antibodies are high.
