As such, DILG Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said the barangay officials were told to explain themselves two days ago. According to an article from ABS-CBN, Malaya said:

Mayroon pong mga kapitan na tinolerate nila ‘yung pa-basketball, violation ng curfew. Mayroon pong mga illegal na cockfighting na nangyari

Currently, Cebu City is the only place in the Philippines where a strict lockdown is imposed. Due to the rising cases of COVID-19, President Rodrigo Duterte put Cebu City back under an Enhanced Community Quarantine.

Furthermore, the President recently cited that the stubbornness of people from the Visayas was the reason for the spike in coronavirus cases. As per the article, Malaya stated that they are now studying the show case orders sent by the officials.

He added that if they found their reasons unacceptable, they would be forced to file a case against them before the Ombudsman.

The Philippines has reported over 51,754 cases of COVID-19. Of that number, 1,314 have succumbed to the deadly disease while 12,813 have recovered. However, the Philippines is still ranked 2nd in the highest number of active cases in Asia.
