ABS-CBN Franchise Update: Piolo Pascual Seeks Compassion For Renewal

Piolo Pascual seeks compassion for ABS-CBN franchise renewal.

ABS-CBN FRANCHISE UPDATE – Kapamilya actor Piolo Pascual rally behind ABS-CBN franchise renewal seeking for compassion from the lawmakers.

Last May 5, 2020, the cease and desist order from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has ultimately shut down ABS-CBN network and stopped their broadcasting operations. This is because their 25-year legislative franchise has expired.

After 12 hearings, they were able to address certain issues such as citizenship of the network’s chair emeritus Gabby Lopez, alleged labor violations, tax-related issues, political biases, and among others. The lawmakers held the summation on July 10, Friday.

And in this day, as workers and celebrities gather appealing for the franchise renewal, one of the stars of the network, Piolo Pascual, screamed and appealed for compassion to members of the House of Representatives Committee on Legislative Franchises.

“Compassion na lang. All the people here are losing their jobs… We are here to ask the Congress to have the compassion to give us the franchise. Masyado na yung pandemya, wag na nating dagdagan pa ang kahirapan sa Pilipinas,” he said.

Accordingly, the country is suffering too much already and by not renewing the franchise would only add up to the hardship. The non-renewal of the franchise will only mean that thousands of workers are also bound to lose their jobs and several personalities and politicians have already expressed their sadness regarding this matter.

Meanwhile, House franchise committee technical working group recommends to junk and deny the franchise renewal application of the ABS-CBN. The network needs 43 votes to have their renewal whereby if a lawmaker votes for “Yes”, means agreement to resolution denying ABS-CBN for a renewal, and “No” if they are against the said resolution.
