Karen Davila Posts Lengthy Message on Social Media Over ABS-CBN News Issue

KAREN DAVILA – The ABS-CBN News anchor revealed her side on the issues surrounding her job and the Kapamilya network’s broadcasting operation being on off-air now.

Previously, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) released a Cease and Desist Order against the ABS-CBN. It was over the network’s expired franchise.

Immediately, the ABS-CBN network placed its broadcasting operation on off-air. Hearings regarding the network’s franchise are still ongoing and the ABS-CBN News is on off-air for two (2) months now.

Several celebrities have spoken regarding the issue. Recently, ABS-CBN News anchor Karen Davila revealed her side on the media being on off-air and her job as a journalist.

In an Instagram post, Karen Davila stated that no administration was happy over the jobs of the journalists like her. She started her journalism career in 1993 during the term of former President Fidel V. Ramos.

According to her, the ties between the media and the politician “is meant to be uncomfortable”. She said that she tried to have no fears in doing her job and part of it is getting criticized. She admitted that she has her own share of mistakes but stressed that she never corrupted herself in the position given to her by the network.

Karen raised a question on why the choices of the people would be limited although there are other media outlets? She stressed that “all voices” are encouraged to speak in a democratic country.

The ABS-CBN News anchor stressed that she is firm in her convictions but she lifts up everything into the hands of the Almighty God. Here is her Instagram post:

We are the men and women of ABSCBN News & Current Affairs. Journalism’s job is to speak truth to power. To hold power accountable. Today, our head of News & Current Affairs Ging Reyes faces congress. No administration was completely happy with our reportage. I became a journalist in 1993 when FVR was in power and from Erap, GMA, PNoy and now PRRD – all have either felt crossed with an investigative report, expose or a scathing radio commentary we have done. But that’s par for the course. That’s part of the job. The relationship between politicians and the press is meant to be uncomfortable. Im all my years of doing documentaries for The Correspondents, radio commentaries on DZMM Pasada 630 and interviewing on ANC Headstart, I have tried to be fearless and fair. It does come with the price of being bashed and trolled. But that comes with the job, so I roll with the punches. I have had good days and bad days and have had my own share of mistakes. But in all my years, I have never corrupted myself in the position ABSCBN has entrusted me with. I can face any politician with a clear conscience. The power and advantages of a free press far outweigh the discomfort of a few. Yes, there are other sources of news but why limit the choices of the Filipino people? A democracy encourages all voices, even one that disagrees with your own. My convictions remain firm but I rest humbly in the Lord and lift everything into His hands. #july62020 #renewabscbnfranchise #ibalikangabscbn #istandinfaith #istandwithabscbn
