Vergeire earlier noted that Marikina, Muntinlupa, Makati, and Quezon all had an increase in the number of coronavirus cases in the past two weeks. The numbers were shown as:

  • Marikina City (+51 cases and 43.47% growth rate)
  • Muntinlupa City (+30 cases and 35.16% growth rate)
  • Makati City (+135 cases and 30.18% growth rate)
  • Quezon City (+406 cases and 34.5% growth rate)

But, on Monday night, the DOH explained:

The following cities were mistakenly classified as hotspots and was based on a report last month. We are thankful to report that as of July 5, the mentioned cities show a significant decline in case growth

Instead, the DOH clarified that as of July 5, Marikina City reported a whopping 68% decrease in COVID-19 cases. Meanwhile, Muntinlupa had a 10% decrease in the virus count. Along with this, Makati was reported to have a 4% decrease.

However, the DOH emphasized that they are still monitoring Quezon City. Currently, the previous coronavirus hotspot in the Philippines had a 34% increase in the number of cases.

Additionally, according to a report from CNN, the positivity rate of the Philippines had gone up from 10.53% on July 2, from 6.67% on June 29.
