And now, a former broadcaster of the network stood up citing why ABS-CBN issues are also press freedom issues. In a Twitter post, Atom Araullo shared an article about National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) blasting Anak Kalusugan party-list Rep. Mike Defensor.

Accordingly, the network seeking for a renewal is an attack to press freedom. This is after Defensor indicated that some lawmakers are not happy as to how the network delivered their “one-sided” reports. He stressed that the news roots the problem as of now as to why the network is having a hard time to have their renewal approved.

With this, Araullo wrote, “If this isn’t a clear indication that ABS-CBN’s franchise woes is a press freedom issue, I don’t know what is.”

For 13 years, ABS-CBN sheltered Araullo. He transferred to GMA network on September 2017. He has a show called “The Atom Araullo Specials” which is aired once in a month.

Defensor also stated that they see nothing wrong in non-political shows of the network. He said, “Katulad nung reklamo nung isang kasama ko, naka-air na naman sila, tinira si ganito, tumira si ganyan, o one-sided iyong paglabas ng issue.”
