Tagbilaran City Among One Of Nation’s “Digital Cities of 2025”

TAGBILARAN CITY – Tagbilaran City, the capital city of Bohol, is now among the list of 25 Digital Cities of 2025.

Due to this, it is now assured to become an information and communications technology (ICT) hub, according to Bohol Chronicles.

This was revealed by the Department of Information and Communications Technology and the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) who also said that the Bohol’s capital, as well as 24 others will be the center of the IT and Business Process Management (IT-BPM) industry development in the nation, which are outside of Metro Manila.

IBPAP President Rey Ulnar said that the 25 were chosen based on the following parameters: talent availability, cost, infrastructure and business environment.

As for the other cities, here are the following:

  • Batangas
  • Cabanatuan
  • Dagupan
  • General Santos
  • Iligan
  • Iriga
  • Laguna Cluster (Calamba, Los Baños, San Pablo)
  • Laoag
  • Legzaspi
  • Malolos
  • Metro Cavite (Gen. Trias, Imus, Bacoor)
  • Metro Rizal (Antipolo, Cainta, Taytay)
  • Olangapo
  • Puerto Prinsesa
  • Roxas
  • San Fernando, La Union
  • San Fernando, Pampanga
  • San Jose del Monte
  • Tacloban
  • Tarcla
  • Tuguegarao
  • Urdaneta
  • Zamboanga

Ulnar added that the said hubs will be provided aid from the DICT, other government agencies, local government units, academic institutes and industry players.

This is in order to support their growth in terms of institutional, infrastructure and talent development; and marketing and promotion.

“We will be able to gauge what kind of additional interventions each one will need to ensure progress and development.

“These will include the strengthening of ICT councils, sharing of best practice, launching of awareness campaigns and facilitating infrastructure initiatives,”

Based on the report, the ICT development program is seen to create growth an generate employment in the countryside and then decongest Metro Manila.

Ulnar said that the development in these cities would invite existing industry players to expand outside of Manila and urge new businesses to set up shop in the nation.

“We have already engaged conversations with key personalities and organizations so that we hit the ground running with Digitla Cities 2025 and facilitate growth and expansion in the countryside,”
