PATIENT HOLDS DOCTOR HOSTAGE – Tensions rose as a security guard was admitted to East Avenue Medical Center on Wednesday morning.

According to police reports, the suspect was identified as Hilarion Achondo, a 51-year-old security guard. He was brought in the hospital after receiving injuries caused by a motorcycle accident.

However, when he got to the hospital around 5:50 AM, he suddenly grabbed a syringe and pointed it at Dr. Russel Carandang. Based on an article from Manila Bulletin, Carandang was attending to several other patients at that time.

The situation became heated as the suspect allegedly attempted to inject the syringe on Carandang’s neck. This led several police officers inside the hospital to calm him down.

As per the article, the police report read:

Sensing the immediate danger to the victim, Staff Sergeant Bienvenido Ribaya III introduced himself as police officer and tried to calm down the suspect, but the latter did not make any demand or complaint

However, despite being held as a hostage, Carandang assured Achondo that she would still help him. Meanwhile, Maj. Elmer Monsalve, head of the QCPD’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said an Alarm and Scandal charge would be filed against the suspect.

This is still a developing story.
