Barangay Chairman, 13 Residents in Cebu City Now Face Charges After Celebrating Fiesta

A barangay chairman together with 13 other residents in Cebu City is now facing charges after celebrating fiesta.

According to the reports, barangay chairman Norman Navarro and 13 other residents celebrated the feast in Barangay Basak San Nicolas last Saturday evening (June 27, 2020). The violators will face sanctions because of their violation.

Central Visayas Police director Brig. General Ignatius Ferro reported that the barangay chairman and the residents could face charges for violation of Bayanihan to Heal as One Act and a city ordinance violating mass gatherings and other health protocols.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government are still studying the other administrative charges that may be filed against Navarro. Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said that they would let Navarro and the police community precinct in the area.

On Monday (June 29, 2020), Central Visayas Police at Sitio Alumnos conducted an inspection and found out that the residents are obeying the stay-at-home policies but the authorities are still implementing the calibrated lockdown.

The authorities also deployed policemen in every station in the area to ensure that no residents would go outside without wearing a quarantine pass based on the odd-even scheme.
