Cop, Drug Suspect Died after Apprehension Turn into Shootout in Parañaque

A cop and an alleged drug suspect were killed after the apprehension of 2 motorcycle riders in Parañaque checkpoint turn in to shootout.

As seen on the CCTV footage, the two motorcycle riders who were not wearing face mask nor helmet were apprehended by 3 policemen manning a checkpoint in Parañaque.

While on their way to respond to the complaint of a local resident on the said place. Police found and arrested the two suspects, Moamar Sarif and Joven Viña, who were both wearing no face masks and helmets.

Sarif came down as he attempts to escape but police stopped him. Another suspect rider – which is the driver of the motorcycle, however, managed to escape.

Meanwhile, Sarif and Police Lieutenant Armand Melad wrestled until the suspect fired at the police for causing him to fall. The suspect also hit Melad’s partner, Police Corporal Allan Baltazar.

Sarif was fired as he tries to run away. Although wounded and knocked down, Melad still managed to shoot his gun. Another police fired at Sarif, who was later shot dead.

According to the Philippine National Police (PNP), Melad was rushed to the hospital but was later died. Meanwhile, Baltazar was released from the hospital and was awarded the Metro Manila police chief Major General Debold Sinas’ Medal of Honor.

According to the report, hospital staff found a sachet of ‘shabu’ weighing 0.3 grams with a street value of P2,040 in the maroon sling bag possessed by the suspect. The PNP vowed financial support and social benefits for both Melad and Baltazar.
