Harry Roque Asks Young Pinoys To Emulate PH National Hero Jose Rizal

JOSE RIZAL – Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque asked the Filipino youth to emulate Dr. Jose Rizal as the country commemorates his 159th birth anniversary.

The national hero of the Philippines, Dr. Jose Rizal was born 159 years ago, on June 19, 1861, in Laguna. He wrote two novels – Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. He died fighting for the freedom of his country.

Rizal died on the field of Bagumbayan in Manila on Dec. 30, 1896. After his death, the country’s struggle for independence turned more violent. Andres Bonifacio and the Katipuneros attack the San Juan del Monte to capture the town’s water station and powder magazine.

Today, June 19, ABS-CBN shared Palace spokesman Harry Roque’s statement was shared on its Twitter page. He urged the Filipino youth to emulate Jose Rizal, the country commemorates his 159th birth anniversary. He said Rizal’s influence on the nation remains relevant today.

“Today, June 19, the Palace joins the entire Filipino nation in celebrating Jose Rizal’s 159th birth anniversary.”

“The life of our greatest national hero is a testament of how a single person’s deep love for his country could spark the re-awakening of our forefathers’ desire for freedom and change.”

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said the best example of our heroes today frontliners fighting COVID-19. He said “this occasion reminds us of Dr. Rizal’s young life, dedicated to service, which rings a bell in these challenging times. We are proud to see today modern-day heroes — our courageous frontliners — who rise up to the challenge and serve as beacons of hope to a people weary and fearful of the present global health scare.”

“We ask our people, the youth in particular, whom our beloved hero referred to as the “hope for our future,” to take inspiration from his life and emulate his principles to be agents of genuine transformation for a better Philippines,” he added.
