Risa Hontiveros Reacts to Victim-Blaming FB Post of Lucban PNP

Senator Risa Hontiveros slammed the Philippine National Police (PNP) of Lucban after the victim-blaming social media post over abused women.

The female Senator said on her Twitter account regarding the controversial social media post of the Facebook page of Lucban Municipal Police Station, “there is no dress code for harassment and abused to women.”

She also stressed that instead of teaching women how to dress, cops should set lessons to men not to do harassment to ladies, adding that victims do not report immediately because of the tendency of victim-blame.

Lucban PNP Victim-Blaming

Her statement comes after the now-deleted controversial post of the Lucban PNP Facebook page in the prosperity of “Independence Day.” A concerned netizen has able to grabbed photos of the post before it was deleted.

On the said post, the Police Station posted a public advisory that called for an end to violence against women. However, in the second paragraph of the post, they suggested that women should avoid “wearing short clothes” if they don’t want to be harassed.

The Facebook post drew flak online and earned elicited comments from the netizens. Meanwhile, the PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said in a statement to reporters that they will conduct an investigation on the victim-blaming post of the said police station.
