Former DFA Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr. Dies At 73, Wife Confirms

PERFECTO YASAY JR – The former secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) died at the age of 73 years old today, June 12.

One of the government agencies in the Philippines is the Department of Foreign Affairs. More commonly called as DFA, it is headed by a secretary.

Under the Duterte administration, Yasay was previously appointed as the DFA Secretary. He served the office from June 30, 2016 until March 8, 2017 when his citizenship was questioned.

Prior to becoming a DFA Secretary, Yasay sat as the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) chairman. He served the office from 1995 to 2000.

Recently, a sad update about former DFA Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr. crossed the surface. Based on a report on Manila Bulletin, Cecil, his wife, confirmed that he died today, June 12.

According to the former DFA Secretary’s wife, Yasay whom she tagged as her husband, partner, and best friend passed away at 7:26 in the morning today.

According to the report, the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP) also confirmed the death of Yasay. He is currently the chairman of the Philippine Christian University’s (PCU) Board of Trustees. The PCU is an affiliate of the UCCP.

“We deeply regret the news of the passing of the current Chairperson of PCU Board of Trustees and former DFA Secretary Atty. Perfecto Yasay, Jr.,” the UCCP stated.
