Holiday Pay Rules for June 12 (Independence Day) Issued by DOLE

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reminded the employers of the proper holiday pay rules for June 12 (Independence Day).

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III reminded the business companies and employers to follow the proper pay rules for June 12, 2020 (Friday – Independence Day). Bello’s statement is based on his Labor Advisory No. 22-2020.

The Labor Advisory No. 22-2020 is pursuant to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s declaration of June 12, 2020, as a regular holiday in the Philippines. in observance of the 122nd Philippine Independence Day.

Holiday Pay Rules

DOLE announced that employees in private sectors who will report to work during the holiday shall receive 200 percent of their regular pay for the first eight hours. If the employee did not report on duty he/she shall receive 100 percent of their daily salary.

If the regular holiday falls on the worker’s rest day and worked overtime, the employee shall receive an additional 30 percent of his/her hourly rate during the holiday.

However, several firms were allowed to defer the holiday payment until normal operations resume after the coronavirus pandemic.

Independence Day is a regular holiday in the Philippines, which is observed every June 12. The holiday commemorates the declaration of Philippine independence from Spain in 1898.
