Man Saves India Residents From Alcohol Addiction After Introducing Chess

The resident of this village in India have been addicted to chess after a man taught them how to play the game.

During the 1960s and 1970s, the small village of Marottichal in Puthur Gram, Thrissur, India is struggling due to addiction to alcohol. The village is also struggling because most of its residents are hooked to gambling.

A man identified as C. Unnikrishhnan has been introduced to the game “Chess” by a young American chess player named Bobby Fischer. He started to attend coaching classes to learn the board game.

Eventually, Unnikrishhnan was hooked and decided to teach chess lesson to his fellow villages at his home. The man has taught over 600 people and most of the villagers have developed a zeal for it.

Chess brings a great change in Marottichal and make the residents realized how alcohol influenced their life. The villagers took the board game as a replacement to their addiction to alcohol.

The guy opened a tea stall and introduced the board to the villagers while taking a sip of their tea. Day by day, the number of customers visiting his stall increased and more people come to play chess.

Unnikrishhnan’s small business grows into a restaurant wherein people could play chess anytime and most residents prefer to play the game rather than watching televisions.
