COVID-19 Test of Inmate In Baguio City Jail Resulted Positive for Disease

INMATE IN BAGUIO CITY JAIL – A young man detained in a jail in Baguio City was confirmed positive for COVID-19.

The Philippines is one of the countries fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic now. In the country, the total coronavirus cases recorded has reached 18,638 now.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), 906 of this total cases died due to COVID-19. The total recoveries is at 3,979 now.

The entire country is still under a community quarantine now due to the coronavirus outbreak. The high-risk areas including Metro Manila are under a General Community Quarantine (GCQ) while most parts of the country are under a Modified GCQ now.

Recently, in Baguio City, another case of coronavirus was recorded. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, an inmate in Baguio City jail tested positive for COVID-19.

The said inmate is a 25-year-old man. He was detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in the city due to allegations of liquor ban violation.

Based on the report, BJMP Chief Inspector Paul Balag-ey expressed that the said inmate in Baguio City jail tested negative on the rapid test but his swab test turned out positive. It is a protocol that those detained in the facility will undergo coronavirus testing.

The patient was tested last May 28 and his results were released last May 31. He was isolated from the other inmates while his results was not out. The man was immediately brought to the hospital after it was confirmed that he’s positive for coronavirus.

The BJMP personnel and the 84 inmates in the facility have tested for COVID-19. Furthermore, the jail is now being disinfected and the inmates are not allowed to go out of their cells during mealtime.
