39 Western Visayas Barangay Officials Charged For SAP Anomalies

WESTERN VISAYAS – About 39 barangay officials in Western Visayas are being charged over anomalies in distribution of cash aid under SAP.

According to SunStar, Police Regional Office (PRO)-Western Visayas acting spokesperson P. Lieutenant Colonel Gilbert Gorero saud that among the erring officials who were arrested were the following:

  • 11 barangay chairpersons
  • eight barangay councilors
  • eight barangay secretaries
  • five barangay health workers
  • three civilians
  • two liaison officers
  • one social welfare officer
  • one purok leader

They will be charged for violating Republic Act (RA) 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, Republic Act 11469 or the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, and Republic Act 6713, which sets public officials’ code of conduct and ethical standards.

Authorities noticed an increase of complaints akin to COVID-19 aid after launching their hotline number. This is based on the record of the regional police from May 6 to May 29.

As per the report, CIDG said that they arrested Evelyn Yerro, MSWDO of Malinao, Aklan on Friday for allegedly including disqualified people in the SAP list. She was arrested by four village chiefs for the said anomaly.

CIDG-Bacolod office head Chief Master Sergeant Ramiro Gocotano reported that among the charges were from complaints filed by those who were disqualified from the program who said that their monthly income had been altered.

Gocotano said that in their earlier list of 10 villages in the city, only the cases against two village chiefs have ben formally filed before the City Prosecutors Office.

“The other cases have been referred back to the DSSD while the other complainants expressed lack of interest in pursuing the case,”
