Former leading men of Pepsi Paloma shared these stories
This May 31, 2020, will be the 35th death anniversary of former daring actress Pepsi Paloma and here are the stories about her that her former leading men shared.
Pepsi stated her career in showbiz when she was just 14 years old. At that time, the trend was titillating films. One of her leading men, Gil Guerrero, became her friend at that time.
They worked together in the films Brown Emmanuelle (1981) and The Victim (1982). “Talagang childish si Pepsi, siyempre bats. Masayahin siya, nakakatuwa, at saka mabait si Pepsi, lalo sa mga kapatid,” the 64-year-old former leading man of Pepsi shared in an interview with PEP.
However, Gil said that at a young age he already knew that Pepsi had a sad life. “Ang nanay niya kasi mukhang pera. Pero mabait si Pepsi. Talagang tumulong siya sa magulang at saka sa mga kapatid. Kaya lang, yung ugali ng nanay niya…Â Wala na akong balita sa nanay niya, pati sa mga kapatid niya,” he revealed.
When asked about the rape case, Gil said that he became a driver of Pepsi and her manager Rey dela Cruz at that time. “Oo, kasama ako. Naging driver ako. Pumupunta kami ng Olongapo, ‘tapos uuwi kami ng Maynila. Ako ang nagmamaneho sa kanila,” the former actor said.
Pepsi filed a rape case against Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon, and Richie ‘D Horsey. “Hindi ko na kasi alam ang nangyari noon. Bigla na lang nawala yung kaso. Ako naman, e, nagmamaneho lang, hindi ko alam kung bakit nawala na,” Gil added.
Another leading man of Pepsi Paloma, Ernie Garcia, shared that the late daring actress was a typical innocent girl. “Pepsi was a regular innocent girl, but was thrown in the jungle of bold and even bolder film as it was the experimental films,” he said.
They worked together in the films Virgin People (1984) and Snake Sisters (1984). Ernie would also describe his former leading lady as “sweet girl but very troubled“. He added that Pepsi was very lonely as she would say nobody cared for her. According to Ernie, it did not surprise him when news about Pepsi’s death surfaced. However, that still saddened him.
Pepsi Paloma ended her life on May 31, 1985, when she was just 18 years old. Based on the article, Senator Tito Sotto, from the prominent TVJ trio, said that the rape case filed against Vic, Joey, and Richie was just a gimmick of Rey dela Cruz.
“Pinagtangkaan nilang magkaso kasi tinira sila ng libel nina Vic at Joey. Idinemanda sila ng libel kaya pinagtangkaan nilang balikan ng kaso,” Tito Sotto said.
