Frontliner Earned Injuries After Being Hit by Armored Van While Riding a Bike in EDSA

MAKATI CITY – A medical frontliner riding a bike was wounded after being hit by an armored vehicle in Makati City on Saturday morning.

Based on the report of ABS-CBN News, the incident occurred around 11:23 am in the southbound lane of EDSA Magallanes as said on the information given by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

The victim was identified as 39-year-old female medical frontliner who came from St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City and was on her way home riding a bike after duty, said by the correspondent rescuer Neil Palermo.

“Nadaanan ko lang sir ‘yung vehicular accident. Bale, nasa ilalim sir ‘yung e-bike saka ‘yung victim, napag-alaman na babae. Conscious naman siya, nakakausap ko siya,” said Palermo.

According to Palermo, the victim’s e-bike got into the bottom of armored car and earned a left arm injury. The victim was transported by the Philippine Red Cross to St. Luke’s hospital.

While the Makati Traffic Bureau is investigating the driver of the armored van. Many workers use bicycles today to get to work and get home while there is still no public transport amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mostly user of bikes are medical frontliners as some of them are experiencing discrimination and bullying when booking a ride. Some transport provider prohibits them to ride because of fear that they are carrying the virus due to their job.
