Here’s what Medialdea said about Duque’s statement on COVID-19 second wave
COVID-19 Second Wave – Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea contradicted the statement of Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III that the Philippines is already experiencing the 2nd wave of COVID-19.
On Wednesday, Duque made this statement during the hearing of Senate committee of the whole on the response of the government on COVID-19 crisis.
“Actually, nasa second wave tayo (we are already in the second wave),” Duque said as he corrected Senator Ramon Revilla Jr. when the latter asked if what needs to be done in order to prevent the second wave, based on the report from Manila Bulletin.
However, in a later interview, the Executive Secretary contradicted the statement of the Health Secretary. “Alam mo hindi pronouncement yan ng Presidente yan or ano. Kailan ba lumabas yang second wave? That we will have to see. Because as far as I know, wala pa tayo sa second wave,” he said, based on the report from Inquirer’s reporter Chona Yu.
He reiterated that the Philippines is not yet experiencing the second wave of COVID-19. The Executive Secretary also said that they have been praying that the second wave will not come. “Wag nating i-expect, wag nating asahan pwede ba,” he added.
Meanwhile, Senator Bong Go said that it will be difficult for the Philippines to experience the COVID-19’s second wave. Because of this difference in the statement between government officials, netizens expressed various reactions. Here are some of the comments.
