ABS-CBN Loses P30-35 Million in Advertising Revenues Daily While Off-Air

ABS-CBN Urges Supreme Court Over NTC Order Against the Network

ABS-CBN – The Kapamilya network said it is losing P30-35 million daily mainly in advertising revenues while it is on off-air.

Currently, the broadcast section of ABS-CBN network is on off-air. It was after the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) issued a Cease and Desist Order against the network.

The NTC order against the Kapamilya network is over its franchise which has yet to be renewed. Previously, it was reported several times that it can continue its operation while its franchise has yet to be discussed in the Congress.

It was last May 5 when the NTC released the order against the Kapamilya network. On that same day, the network was quick to announce that it will go off-air following the order.

There were mixed reactions over the matter which took the social media by storm. Some stood that the law must be upheld while others feel for those who are working under the network amid the crisis.

Recently, ABS-CBN appealed to the Supreme Court over the NTC order. Based on a report, it asks the High Court to act immediately on it as it is losing P30-35 million daily – mainly in advertising revenues while it is on off-air.

The impact does not stop there. According to the network, it may lead to the laying off of workers, reduction of salaries and benefits, and the cutting down of costs and expenses.

Based on the report, the going off-air of the network does not only affect the employees but even the advertising industry. In its appeal, the network cited its contributions such as the following:

  • P70.5 billion in taxes from 2003-2020
  • 99% household reach
  • 70% of Filipino households watched the network in 2019
  • P237-million funds raised as response against COVID-19 crisis
