PAGASA – Ambo Further Weakens, Makes Landfall Over Burias Island

PAGASA – Here are the latest updates from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) this May 15, 2020.

The state weather bureau recently said in its 5 AM bulletin that Typhoon Ambo has recently made landfall over Buriao Island.

According to GMA News, Ambo is expected to head towards the Ragay Gulf before it makes landfall over Bondoc Peninsula in Southern Quezon on this day.

The past landfalls it made are the following:

  • San Policarpo, Eastern Samar (12:15 PM May 14)
  • Dalupiri Island, Northern Samar (10:15 PM May 14)
  • Capul Island, Northern Samar (10:30 PM May 14)
  • Ticao Island, Masbate (12:00 AM May 15)
  • Burias Island, Masbate (3:00 AM May 15)

Bicol Region, Quezon, Aurora, and Marinduque will face moderate to heavy with occasional intense rains on this day.

As per the report, residents in the said areas are urged to take precautionary measures, coordinate with local disaster risk management offices, and stay updated for more advisories.

The bureau warned of floods and rain-inducing landslides especially in highly to very highly susceptible areas during heavy or prolonged rainfall.

The coastal areas of Bicol Region, Quezon, and Aurora will face storm surge of 2.0 meters. The surge may result to potentially life-threatening coastal inundation.

As usual, for seaboards under TCWS, sea travel is risky for all types of seacrafts.

Ambo was last spotted in thevicinity of Claveria town, Burias Island in Masbate.

It is packed with maximum sustained winds of 125 kilometers per hour and gusts of 165 kilometers per hour. It is currently moving northwestward at around 15 kilometers per hour.

It is expected that moderate to heavy with occasional intense rains will be faced by Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Aurora, and the northern portion of Nueva Ecija.
