Additional 5-Million Low-Income Families To Recieve Cash Aid

ADDITIONAL 5-MILLION FAMILIES – As the country continues its battle with COVID-19, President Rodrigo Duterte approves giving an additional 5M low-income families cash aid.

The coronavirus has heavily affected the working class of the Philippines. During a previous report, we learned that the country had the strictest protocols for COVID-19 in Asia. As such, the number of suspended jobs is high.

This has left thousands of residents struggling to find income amid the pandemic. Luckily, the President approved to give an additional five million families to be included as beneficiaries in the government’s emergency financial subsidy program.

According to an article from Inquirer, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque stated:

Hindi lang po 18 million ang mabibigyan gn SAP (Social Amelioration Program) sa first tranche, madadagdagan pa po ng 5 million.

However, Roque did emphasize that the government has limited due to its continued battle against the virus. As such, the spokesman highlighted that they would only cover poor families in areas under the ECQ until May 15.

Under the government’s Social Amelioration Program (SAP), P18-M low-income families would be given a monthly cash aid of P5,000 to P8,000 for two months. This would be taken out of the government’s budget of P200-billion.

Currently, some areas of the Philippines is still under an Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ). However, some areas were tagged by the Inter-agency task force as “low risk” despite lack of mass testing.
