Physical distancing in flights involves having passengers seated one seat apart. For airlines, it will be unprofitable, according to a report from ABS-CBN News.

Air Carriers Association of the Philippines Vice Chairman Roberto Lim said that a wage subsidy from Congress might help sustain jobs in line with aviation while there have been no huge-scale layoffs/

The Air Carriers Association of the Philippines includes airlines Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines and AirAsia Philippines.

There are about $5 billion or ₱250 billion worth of looses. The travel ban affected at around 25, 000 airline employees and 500,000 other tourism jobs was filled with uncertainty.

Lim said that the one-seat apart policy would not be economically viable for the airlines as they will only “break even” if flights are 70% occupied.

As per the report, the government also set up health and quarantine facilities in tourism hubs before the airlines can fly to domestic areas.

Ralph Recto, Senate President Pro Tempore, told Lim to submit a list of possible aid the government can do to keep the industry afloat.
