27 People Selling Overpriced Medical Goods, Rice Arrested

DAVAO CITY – authorities arrested twenty-seven (27) people after caught selling overpriced medical goods, alcohol, rice, and thermal scanners.

The Philippine government already warned inconsiderate individuals who taking advantage of the crisis. People trying to sell overpriced medical supplies such as alcohol, facemasks and toiletries will face arrest and may be charge.

Meanwhile, during the start of the enhanced community quarantine, lots of suspects have been arrested in Davao City, based on the record of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Davao. They launched 13 operations from March 14 until May 4.

According to Mindanao Times, Maj. Milgrace Driz, head of CIDG-Davao said 11 of the operations are for overpriced disinfectants and thermal scanners. One operation was for the illegal sale of butane gas, which was a violation of PD 1865 or the unauthorized sale of petroleum products without a permit from regulatory agencies. Another was arrested for violating PD 1602 or illegal gambling.

Meanwhile, with Sta. Ana Police Station, Special Operations Group of Davao City Police Office, City City’s Office, regional offices of the Department of Agriculture and Trade and Industry joint forces, two individuals selling overpriced rice were also arrested in two separate operations in Sta. Ana Avenue and Monteverde corner of Gempesaw street.

Authorities recovered 10 bags of imported rice at 50 kilograms each for sale at P2,120.00 per sack much higher than the suggested price of P2,075 and a sheet of delivery receipt. While six sacks of imported rice at 50 kilograms a sack sold for P2,250 and four sacks of other miscellaneous imported rice sold at P2,200 was confiscated from another suspect.

CIDG head said these operations are conducted related to Republic Act 11469, the “Bayanihan to Heal as One Act”, a law created as part of interventions to charge individuals defying the law during COVID-19.

Meanwhile, Lt. Col Ronald L. Lao, commander both of the Regional Special Operation Group (RSOG) XI and the Talomo Station arrested two business man for selling thermal scanners.

Suspects were identified as Ernesto Tomagos, 37-year-old businessman, 29-year-old Vicente Daigan Jr., businessman, and 31-year-old Wendell H. Ognit. The three were allegedly selling thermal scanners thrice higher that the suggested retail price.
