The barangay officials who were involved in reducing the SAP cash aids for poor families would face corresponding sanctions and penalties, according to DILG.

Over the past few months, various local government units across the country are already distributing financial assistance to the poor families whose jobs and livelihoods have been affected by the enhanced community quarantine.

A lot of Filipino people have already received the social amelioration cash fund from the government while there are some who did not. The government officials are evaluating the beneficiaries to find out if they are qualified.

However, several residents are complaining for not receiving cash aids although they are qualified. Some barangay officials were even reducing the cash aid and even dividing the cash assistance allocated for one family into several families.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government warned the officials involved in illegal activities and anomalies. DILG said that the officials might face suspension and jail imprisonment if proven guilty for corruption.

The Department also considers the illegal act as a violation of the Republic Act 11469 or “The Bayanihan to Heal as One Act”, according to toDILG Undersecretary and Spokesman Jonathan Malaya.

“Kung totoo man po ang mga reports na ‘yan na hinati nga ang ayuda para sa mga pamilya, ‘yan po ay pinagbabawal sa batas at pwede po silang masuspinde at makulong pa kung ginawa talaga nila,” Malaya said.
