Law Enforcer in Mandaluyong Gives Face Mask to a Man Instead of Arresting Him

MANDALUYONG CITY – a man who goes out without wearing face mask got halted by law enforcer but instead of being arrested, he was given a face mask.

Since the enhanced community quarantine was imposed by the Philippine government to contain the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), people should follow the guidelines. It includes strictly wearing face masks when going out, if failed to do so, you may face arrest and fine.

But this was not the case to the man who was caught staying outside without wearing a face mask in Barangay Addition Hills, Mandaluyong. According to a post by the Mandaluyong City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office on Facebook, a barangay vehicle stopped at the man walking on F. B. Martinez Avenue after noticing he had no face mask.

An Army reservist assigned to Addition Hills went down did something unusual these days. Instead of arresting the man, the Army reservist informed him of his violation and was given a free face mask to wear.

According to Mandaluyong’s Ordinance No. 767 released this April, suspect wiff be fine P5,000 and be jailed for one week or two more if caught in public places without face masks.

Along with other soldiers and police, some members of the Army reserve command were deployed to Addition Hills after the city subjected the heightened community quarantine to portions of the barangay on April 10 over COVID-19 cases.

On April 28, Addition Hills was one of 3 barangays to register the most confirmed case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Mandaluyong City. The city has 354 confirmed cases, 33 have died, and 62 have recovered.
