Año Says Martial Law Possible Due To NPA Attacks Amid COVID-19 Crisis

MARTIAL LAW POSSIBLE – Interior Secretary Eduardo Año backed the possibility of a martial law declaration.

Recently, the New People’s Army increased its attacks amid the coronavirus quarantine. According to reports, the rebel group may be taking advantage of the crisis to conduct their attacks.

According to a report from GMA, Año said the rebels have attacked local officials escorting the government’s amelioration funds during the coronavirus crisis. As such, Año stated that the President warned that if the attacks continued, a martial law could be declared.

Moreover, on Friday, a police officer and a local official sustained wounds following an alleged NPA attack. According to the victims, the NPA gunmen attacked a police vehicle in Moreal Town, Masbate.
