HK Health Officials Reports No New COVID-19 Cases This Week

NO COVID-19 CASES IN HK – Health authorities in Hong Kong cancelled their press briefing as no new coronavirus cases were reported this week.

This would be the second time in a week that Hong Kong had no new coronavirus reports. As such, the government hopes that their response to the viral outbreak had been effective in flattening the spread of the virus.

According to an article from RTHK, Hong Kong previously had dozens of new cases at the end of last month. But now, the government and its people’s hopes returned.

However, even with the drastic decrease in the number of cases, the Center for Health Protection urged the public to adhere to social distancing. Likewise, Health And Food Secretary Sophia Chan warned that HK could not relax restrictions anytime soon.

Moreover, the health secretary stated that residents of HK should see social distancing as “the new norm”. Meanwhile, restaurants have begun operating at full capacity instead of half.

However, these restaurants must observe previous social distancing measures. Some of these include only allowing four people to sit per table which must be spaced 1.5 meters apart. Furthermore, these restrictions are to be followed until May 7.

According to a report from South China Morning Post, experts stated Hong Kong could begin to ease restrictions if new cases stayed in single digits for at least a month.

Although, even running at full capacity did little to get customers to return to their restaurants. More so, customers and locals did not feel like eating out in fears of catching the virus.
