Bato dela Rosa Says DOH Chief Francisco Duque’s Negligence Worsened PH COVID-19 Crisis
BATO DELA ROSA – Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa said Francisco Duque’s negligence worsened the COVID-19 crisis in the Philippines.
Dr. Francisco Duque III currently serves as the chief of the Department of Health. He has been at the forefront of the Philippine government’s efforts to fight the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The virus from China has infected more than 5000 Filipinos.
15 senators were not impressed with his performance. In a previous article, several lawmakers filed a petition calling for his resignation.
Senator Grace Poe said the Health chief failed the minimum standard of leadership. She was dismayed over the lack of mass testing and gagging of healthcare personel who’s calling for support.
She said the lives of all Filipinos will be in danger if won’t resign from his position. “Kung ganito ang kapitan natin ngayong krisis, baka lalo tayong mapahamak,” Poe said.
Based on a report from GMA News, Senator Bato Dela Rosa is among the politicians who filed a resolution seeking the resignation of the DOH chief. The Davaoeño lawmaker said the COVID-19 situation in the country could not have been worse if the health department reacted immediately.
The former PNP chief said the DOH should have conducted contact tracing to the co-passengers of the couple from Wuhan City, China.
“Personally, my strongest protest is on his [Health Secretary Francisco Duque III’s] lack of sincerity in the conduct of contact tracing on the co-passengers of the Wuhan couple who were first confirmed COVID-19 case[s] in the country. He kept on passing the buck…”
“Had that contact tracing been successfully done, maybe our present situation could not have been this worse,” he added.
According to the report, Dr. Francisco Duque said he will never resign from the position despite the lawmaker’s sentiments. The chief executive wants him to “stay put.”
