Medical frontliners at the PGH have to endure an agonizing long hours straight without ever seeing the toilet to relieve themselves while wearing personal protective equipment.

Hospital staff must work and ensure that they must assess the patients and not to be exposed to the virus as the hospital is the referral center for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

According to the report of GMA News, hospital staff must change to a fresh set of PPE after going to the toilet so that they can avoid any form of contamination, this was revealed by Dr. Jonas del Rosario, UP-PGH spokesperson in a report for “24 Oras.”

“So eight hours straight na hanggat maaari kung mapipigil nila, hindi sila allowed magpunta sa toilet,” said Dr. del Rosario

He also added that it was quite difficult for some because the PPEs are hot. “Medyo mahirap sa iba, dahil mainit ‘yung suot nila at syempre kung minsan, nakakapagod din na ‘yun ang suot,” he added.

Based on the report, PGH has three teams that handle coronavirus patients at PGH. Each team would go on duty for one week and then rest for two weeks while another team would take their place at the hospital.

The time given to the healthcare workforce to rest, ensures that they are ‘re-energized’ before returning to duty, said del Rosario.
