Pinay Nurse in Denmark Back to Saving Lives After Overcoming COVID-19

The first Pinay nurse in Denmark who was infected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is back to work after recovered.

In a report of ABS-CBN News, she is the first Filipina nurse infected with COVID-19 in Denmark. Almost everyone with her in the Herlev Hospital – Infectious Diseases Unit was also infected so they had to close their unit first.

After the 14-day quarantine, the 32-year old Filipina nurse clinical instructor Katherine Perez Luckmann returned to work on April 1 after completing the 14-day quarantine period. 

“Ngayon ang priority ko talaga kasi is makatulong especially sa mga patients kasi madami talagang in need ngayon. Inisip ko din na kailangan ko tulungan ‘yung mga colleague ko, mostly ‘yung mga nurses naming puro may sakit,” said Luckmann.

In an interview with TFC News, she shared her experience and how she fought the infection. She had been having hard time fighting with the illness. She also said even his husband was infected.

She said that she had been bedridden for three to four days, with fever and shortness of breath. She had a hard time standing up so her husband had to lift her, soon after he got infected.

“Binubuhat pa ‘ko ng asawa ko para makaupo kasi hindi ko talaga kaya. Umiiyak talaga ako sa sakit. Yun nga lang, after a few days, nahawa na din siya sa akin. Mas naawa ako sa kanya and natakot kasi may hika din siya,” she said.

They do not have to be hospitalized because their condition is manageable compared to other patients. They just stayed home until they recovered. She also thanked his relatives who helped them while they were under home quarantine.
