Army Gives Warm Hero’s Welcome To Soldier As He Survives COVID-19

SOLDIER SURVIVES CORONAVIRUS – A soldier from the Philippine Army’s 1st Infantry based in Zamboanga received a hero’s welcome from the army after surviving COVID-19.

Although COVID-19 has a low fatality rate, it could still be a deadly threat to anybody regardless of age. Moreover, there is still much to be known about the virus, making it a grievous ordeal.

As such, a simple warm welcome ceremony was hosted by Major General Gene Ponio, commander of the 1st Infantry Division. In attendance was fellow officers and enlisted personnel.

Image from according to a report from GMA, the survivor officer was admitted on March 17 at the Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center. Furthermore, the soldier came back from Manila with symptoms of the disease.

Afterward, he got tested and confirmed positive for the new coronavirus. Following this, the soldier was tested again on April 6 where he was confirmed negative for the virus.

Meanwhile, the officer would still be confined and monitored at the infirmary and would complete his medication there. As per the report, the Rural Health Unit of Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur would monitor the soldier’s condition.

Currently, there are 3,764 cases of COVID-19 in the Philippines. Meanwhile, the death toll the virus had reached 177. Additionally, there had already been 84 recoveries.

However, as the number of cases continued to rise in the Philippines, officials have opted to extend the Enhance Community Quarantine.
