BARANGAY CHAIRMAN – This barangay chairman from Tondo, Manila explained the 29 names of beneficiaries listed under his household alone.
Barangay 251 Chairman Rene Angat was found out to have listed 29 names of beneficiaries to receive relief goods from the local government. Thus, he was called for an interview in Manila City Hall to explain the numerous names listed under his household alone.
In his defense, the barangay captain said that the names he wrote in the list all live in his house which included his relatives, workers, and some taxi drivers. All of whom have their own family to feed. He furthered that as far as he knows, every family is entitled to received food pack from the government.
He clarified based on GMA’s report, “Nagpalista sila ng mga ipamimigay. Isinama [ko] lahat ng mga trabahador ko na may bawat pamilya kasi bawat pamilya entitled naman sa isa (food pack).”
Meanwhile, based on investigation conducted by Manila City Special Mayor’s Reaction Team there were four names listed and can be considered as one family only. With this, the barangay chairman might face charges after violating Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, Code of Conduct for Public Officials, and Bayanihan to Heal as One Act.
