Catriona Gray Raises P1M For Poor Families In Smokey Mountain Amid Coronavirus Crisis
CORONAVIRUS – Beauty queen Catriona Gray has raised 1 million pesos for the families affected by coronavirus quarantine.
Philippine Presiden Rodrigo Roa Duterte imposed an “enhanced community quarantine” in Luzon to curb the spread of the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Celebrities like Angel Locsin, Bela Padilla, and Maine Mendoza have offered some help to the families affected by the lockdown and frontliners risking their lives to save patients.
Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray is one of the Kapamilya stars who launched fundraising to help the needy in Tondo’s Smokey Mountain. She previously uploaded a video on her Instagram account saying each family will receive fifteen (15) kilograms of rice.
On Wednesday, April 1, Catriona Gray announced that she has raised 1 million pesos for the daily wage earners in Tondo. In the caption, she said her goal is to provide sacks of rice to 1 thousand families in the said location.
“I can’t keep the smile from my face… Thank you so much to everyone who joined in donating towards helping feed the families of Smokey Mountain, Manila!” she said.
Catriona Gray collected the amount with Tondo-based organization ‘Young Focus PH’ and other nongovernment organizations. The Filipina-Australian beauty queen said they have distributed 15 kg bags of rice to 790 families. They are set to deliver more rice to 1000 families in Tondo tomorrow.
“Because of your generosity almost 2,000 Filipino families will not go hungry and be able to stay home to protect their families health as well as their own!” she said.
