The hashtag #ProtectVico prompted shortly after the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) announced they will summon Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto for his supposed violation of a new law granting President Rodrigo Duterte special powers the “Bayanihan to Heal As One Act” to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.

The summoned prompted the hashtag that becomes trending on global Twitter trends. Local celebrities, personalities, his fans, and concerned netizens express support to the young mayor.

Aside from expressing support for the young Pasig mayor, netizens say he serves his constituents only, netizens are also asking why the government picking on Vico when there are more pressing issues, such as famine. They also include Koko Pimentel’s issue.

In our previous article, NBI Deputy Director and spokesman Ferdinand Lavin said that the bureau sent a letter to Sotto “for disobeying the national government policies in imposing quarantines.” Sotto was summoned to the NBI on April 7 at 10 am so he could defend himself to the authorities.

Sotto, however, didn’t seem to be cowed by the summoning, he tweeted his reactions citing that summon was about the “continuous tricycle operation” in Pasig City.

“We complied with all directives. Hindi po illegal magbigay ng opinion. Alam kaya nila na March 24 naging batas ang Bayanihan Act?” Sotto said as his reaction when he was asked to explain this issue.
