Hospitals Threaten To Terminate Medical Workers, Doctors If They Spoke About Work Conditions

HOSPITALS THREATEN TO TERMINATE DOCTORS – Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, health care workers are faced with a lack of medical supplies.

However, some hospitals have threatened to terminate their frontliners if they publicized their working conditions. According to reports from Bloomberg, terminations have already happened.

A victim of the termination was Ming Li, an emergency room physician in Washington State. He got fired after doing an interview with a newspaper. During the interview, he detailed the lack of protective gear and testing equipment.

Similar reports have been happening as well. This time, a nurse from Chicago was terminated after telling her colleagues she wanted to wear better protective gear while on duty.

Similarly, the NYU Langone Health system warned employees they could be fired if they decided to talk to media without prior authorization.

As per the report, Ruth Schubert, a spokeswoman of Washing State Nurses Association stated:

Hospitals are muzzling nurses and other health-care workers in an attempt to preserve their image,

Following this, Schubert emphasized that during the Pandemic, health-care workers must be able to tell the public the truth. However, it seemed like hospitals are trying to prevent the public from knowing what’s really going on inside their facilities.

In lieu of this, faculty director of Harvard Law School’s bioethics center Glen Cohen stated:

It is good and appropriate for health-care workers to be able to express their own fears and concerns, especially when expressing that might get them better protection,

Here are some of the Tweets made by health-care workers amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
