DOH Official Says Japanese Anti-Flu Drug For COVID-19 “Very Promising”

COVID-19 – The Department of Health undersecretary recently said that the anti-flu treatment from Japan could be a promising treatment for COVID-19.

Health undersecretary Eric Domingo said that the Philippine government might consider bringing the said treatment for the coronavirus disease 2019 into the nation.

According to GMA News, Domingo added that the anti-flu is a very early development drug and it provided positive responses for patients.

The undersecretary, who is also a Food and Drug Administration director general, added that the drug, under the name Avigan, is not yet commercially-produced, adding that there is no distributor in the nation et.

As per the report, the ministry of science and technology of China said that clinical trials of favipiravir, which is Avigan’s active ingredient, have been finished and produced wery positive results.

Avigan, which is being made by a Fujifilm subsidiary, has licensed the patent for the said active ingredient to Zhejiang Hisun Pharmaceutical, a company fro China.

There are about 1,418 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Philippines, among them were 42 recovered and 71 fatalities.

The World Health Organization has a total of more than 600,000 cases and 30,000 fatalities worldwide as of Sunday.
