The city is currently under enhanced community quarantine in order to contain the threat of the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19).

An article from Rappler states that a Facebook user there made a post, which the officials considered as “provoking”, that the people were going hungry and urge the public to raid a local gym that has food packs were stocked.

The Facebook user was using the name Yet Rodriguez Enosencio. She initially ranted at how many people will perish if the people wount work together to report to the President how incompetent their mayor (Ronnel Rivera) is .

She then urged the public to raid the local gym (Lagao Gym) claiming that the food packs meant for the people are stocked there.

The city government’s legal office caught wind of this and sent a complaint to the Philippine National Police (PNP) Region 12 Cybercrime Unit, which located the user and arrested her.

It clearly turns out that it was a dummy account by a public school teacher, identified as Juliet Espinosa, aged 55 years old.

Furthermore, the cops arrested the teacher without warrant.

Police Major Leo Dofelis, Assistant Chief of the regional cybercrime unit, said that the reason is that the post still circulated online on Facebook, considering it as a continuous crime. The warrantless arrest was earlier validated by the Department of Justice.

Espinosa will face charges for violating Article 142 of the Revised Penal Code, also known as Inciting to Sedition.

As per the report, to add salt to injury, her son of legal age was arrested. The reason is that he attempted to prevent the policemen from arresting his mother.

This is a direct violation of Article 151, which the son will be charged against for resisting or disobeying an authority. Dofelis added that he might charged more for obstruction of justice.

Both the mother and son are imprisoned and would face inquest proceedings on Monday.
