NASA Says Four Asteroids Approach Earth Just As March Comes To An End

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER COVID-19? – If you’re not satisfied with 2020 yet, NASA says four asteroids are about to approach Earth.

Admittedly, 2020 has not been the best of years. Instead of worrying about keeping up with our “new year’s resolutions”, the Earth was faced with an increasing set of issues leading up to the pandemic.

In January, World War III almost started because of tensions between Iran and the United States. In February, the virus discovered in Wuhan continued its spread in China. Shortly after, COVID-19 was declared as a pandemic.

Following this, NASA’s Centre for Near-Earth Object Studies or CNEOS has reported that on 21st March and 23rd March, a total of four asteroids will be approaching Earth.

According to an article from India Times, the asteroids have been named by the CNEOS as:

  • 2020 FK
  • 2020 FS
  • 2020 DP4
  • 2020 FFI

The FK was the smallest of the asteroids at just 43 feet in diameter. It had a speed of over 37,000 kilometers per hour. Additionally, it will pass by at a distance of 1.36 million kilometers.

Meanwhile, the 2020 FS is slightly larger with a diameter of 56 feet. However, it was reported to have a slower speed of just 15,000 kilometers per hour. As per the report, it would be the furthest to fly by the Earth at around 3.05 million km away.

As per the report, the 2020 FK flew by our planet at 9:35 AM IST. In contrast, the 2020 FS will pass at around 8:59 PM IST.

Furthermore, on 23rd March, the 2020 DP4 would approach the Earth. It’s the largest of the four with a diameter of 180 feet. Moreover, it will be flying at a distance of 1.35 million kilometers away at a speed of 29,000 km/hour.

On the other hand, the 2020 FFI, the smallest of the group has a diameter of 48 feet. However, it is the fastest of the asteroids with a speed of 47,000 kilometers per hour.

Additionally, it is the closest one to the Earth at just around 713,000 kilometers away. According to NASA, the meteor will pass on 12:04 AM IST while the 2020 FFI will pass at around 3:39 AM IST.
