COVID-19 patient in South Korea, 93 years old, has recovered

A 93-year-old novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patient in South Korea has recovered and was sent home.

The woman is considered as the eldest person in South Korea who has recovered from the deadly virus, based on the report from Inquirer. She is among the 3,100 people in the said country who had been declared clear of the virus as of Monday.

Two days after testing positive for the virus, early this March, the patient was transferred to a nursing home in Gyeongsan City, North Gyeongsang Province.

“She is the eldest patient to have recovered from COVID-19. I understand she had symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease but did not have other underlying illness,” an official from Gyeongsan City said. After 13 days of treatment in a medical facility in Seoul, on Saturday, the patient went home.

On March 10 and 12, she was tested negative for the coronavirus, however, doctors continued treating her with antibiotics due to symptoms of pneumonia.

Based on the report, Korea had reported 8,961 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 111 deaths. This is as of Monday, 12:01 AM. Meanwhile, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that 3,166 patients have been discharged from isolation after recovery.

In the Philippines, on the other hand, 82 new cases have been recorded as of Monday afternoon. The total confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country reached to 462.
