Overpriced Alcohol Sellers Arrested In Zamboanga City Amid Covid Crisis

Three persons arrested over selling overpriced alcohol.

OVERPRICED ALCOHOL – Three sellers selling overpriced alcohol were nabbed in Zamboanga amid the coronavirus crisis the country is facing.

Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) along with Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) personnel arrested three sellers in Zamboanga City for reportedly selling overpriced alcohol and sanitizers through online. They were identified as Arnel Salih Santos, 33, resident of Sitio Talungun, Barangay San Roque: Arman Graciano Plateros, 32 of Barangay Vitali, and Maria Azha Solis Arroyo, 32 of Zone 3 Barangay Guisao.

The buy-bust operation was conducted in Sitio Talungun around 1:30 P.M. on Tuesday after someone tipped them off about the matter. The confiscated products included 120 plastic bottles of Green Cross alcohol with no-sting sanitizer, six plastic bottles of 150 ml hygienic alcohol, and 25 plastic bottles of 150 ml Casino Ethyl alcohol. All of which were 70 percent solution as per Manila Bulletin.

The suspects are now detained for violating the law about overpricing basic necessities and prime commodities and will face charges for not heeding the law such as Price Act, Consumer Act, and the recent directive from President Rodrigo Duterte. DTI have warned traders regarding overpricing before following people went panic buying causing hoarding when the virus broke out.

Entire Luzon is currently under enhanced community quarantine. And as of latest bulletin, the country now has 230 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 18 deaths and eight recoveries. The whole Philippines under state of calamity and numerous cities, provinces, and towns under heightened community quarantine.
