QUEZON CITY CAFE – Popburri Cafè in Quezon City has transformed into a temporary shelter for the homeless amid the COVID-19 crisis.

Amid the health crisis we are all from around the world are currently facing, goodness in people just comes out naturally. In this kind of trying times we can truly attest that there is really goodness in every people. Just like the owner of Popburri Cafè in Quezon City.

Her place was once a home to healthy popsicle treats but now, amid the coronavirus disease 2019 crisis, she transformed it into something that homeless persons could dwell on as their temporary shelter. The place accommodate the homeless amid the enhanced community quarantine declared to the entire Luzon.

The owner is Maria Camille Dowling, 38 years old, said, “The news always reiterated how important it was to wash hands and we thought what about if you don’t have a sink or running water? So, our biggest provision for the shelter is being able to shower, wash, and do the laundry, too.”

They will be open 6 P.M. to 6 A.M. daily offering free breakfast and dinner. People can leave after the designated time because they will need to clean, disinfect, and prepare food, and supplies. This will last until April 12 and her business will be close until that date as well but for her, it is nothing compared to be of help.

Moreover, in the following weeks, she is planning to open another space. She said as per Manila Bulletin, “I would encourage business owners to focus on your community and get your customers involved. Most of our donations are from people in this area who buy bread and popsicles from us. When people are given the opportunity, they often want to really contribute.”
