Zambales Hit by Earthquake with 4.5 Magnitude

EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 4.5 magnitude quake in Zambales, March 19, 2020.

Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.

One of the strong quakes recorded by Phivolcs is the 7.1 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental. There were expected aftershocks due to the said quake and a tsunami advisory was released.

Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking were felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“.

Phivolcs recorded a 5.6 magnitude quake in Makilala, North Cotabato at around 8 pm on July 9. It was followed by several aftershocks.

Recently, a quake has hit a part of Zambales. At 02:49 pm, March 19, 2020, San Felipe was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.5.


According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Zambales was located at 14.99°North, 119.88°East – 022 km South 70° West of San Felipe. The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 019 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in a bulletin that there are no expected damages caused by the quake and as well as aftershocks. The following intensities were recorded:

  • Intensity IV – San Felipe & Castillejos, Zambales
  • Intensity II – Porac, Pampanga; Morong, Bataan
  • Intensity I – Quezon City; San Mateo, Rizal
